|The world-wide spread of antibiotic-resistant microorganisms can be viewed as an ecological consequence of the systematic use of antimicrobial agents. Resistant bacteria prevail in healthcare environments where antibiotic selective pressure is intensive.|
The first CycloN Hit Newsletter is now available
At the closing of 2016, CycloN Hit was actively involved in the organisation and the holding of the 3rd Annual Meeting of the French Society for Nanomedicine (SFNano), from December 12th to 14th in Paris, France.
The project’s coordinator, Dr. Ruxandra Gref chaired the “Nanomedicine and Severe Infectious Diseases” session on December 14th, under which ESR Joana Costa Gouveia has been selected to present an oral talk entitled “Pulmonary co-administration of the synergic drugs, Ethionamide and Booster using aerosolized nanoparticles: a promising strategy to treat tuberculosis”, whilst ESR Elisabetta Pancani presented a talk entitled "Development of an advanced label-free technique to study nanoparticles internalization in cells to fight intracellular bacteria" within the "Nanomedicine & Imaging" session. ESR Marta Perez-Lloret, took part in the poster session, with her work entitled "A bifunctional graphene oxide nanohybrid for photostimulated nitric oxide release and photothermia”. So did ER Giuseppina Salzano, with a poster entitled "“Cage” nanoparticles containing a synergic drug combination for the treatment of tuberculosis".
Within the same “Nanomedicine and Severe Infectious Diseases” session, Prof. Thorsteinn Loftsson, CycloN Hit full partner from the University of Iceland, held a conference on “Cyclodextrin, nanoparticles and antibiotic delivery”, together with Dr. Dominique Duchêne of Galien Institute, Châtenay-Malabry, France. Dr. Duchêne will be subsequently honoured in the special issue of International Journal of Pharmaceutics, to which CycloN Hit will be making an important contribution.
